Michael Jay, Ph.D., Chief Science Officer and Co-founder
Mike is currently the Fred Eshelman Distinguished Professor, Division of Molecular Pharmaceutics, and Professor, Biomedical Engineering at University of North Carolina’s Eshelman School of Pharmacy. Mike received his B.S. in pharmacy from the State University of New York at Buffalo in 1976 and his Ph.D. in pharmaceutical sciences from the University of Kentucky in 1980. Prior to his position at UNC, he was a professor of pharmaceutics and professor of radiology at the University of Kentucky. Mike has received a number of awards, including the Berson-Yalow Award from the Society of Nuclear Medicine, the Mendell Award for Scientific Excellence in Pharmaceutical Sciences, the Excellence in Pharmaceutical Graduate Education Award from the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Kentucky. He was also named a Fellow of the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists. In addition to Capture, Mike is the cofounder of Arcato Laboratories, Inc.
Russell Mumper, Ph.D., Co-founder
Dr. Russell Mumper currently serves as Vice Provost for Academic Affairs at the University of Georgia. He was previously Vice Dean and John A. McNeill Distinguished Professor at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill Eshelman School of Pharmacy. He has published more than 300 peer-reviewed scientific manuscripts and abstracts in areas such as nanotechnology, drug delivery and plant-based anti-cancer and anti-inflammatory compounds. He is a named inventor on 56 patents or patent families, many of which have been licensed to companies, and has co-founded five companies. In addition, he has started and led or co-led several multidisciplinary research, development and manufacturing centers. Dr. Mumper began his academic career in 1999 at the University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy, after spending nearly a decade working in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries.
Alan Parr, Pharm.D., Ph.D., Chief Operating Officer
Alan has been involved in pharmaceutical sciences research and development for 33 years. Prior to joining Capture, Alan was a scientist at GlaxoSmithKline/GSK for 27 years, serving in various roles including; formulation scientist, formulation manager, and Director of Biopharmaceutics. His responsibilities ranged from development of formulations in the early development phase all the way through to the scale up of commercial-size batches for the marketplace. Alan has deep experience in the creation, review, and submission of regulatory documents to the US Food and Drug Administration, including Investigational New Drug (IND) applications, New Drug Applications (NDA) and Marketing Authorization Applications (MAA), as well as foreign filings. Alan obtained his Ph.D. at the University of Kentucky and his Pharm.D. at the University of Nebraska Medical Center.
Thomas Pitler, Ph.D., Chief Executive Officer
Tom has been in senior management roles in biopharmaceutical companies for over 20 years. Tom has most recently been consultant to several specialty pharma and biotech companies as President of Iredell Williamson, LLC, a consulting firm to the biopharmaceutical industry providing business development and management functions. Prior to his consulting role, Tom was VP of Business Development at Heron Therapeutics, President at NeuroGate Therapeutics, VP of Business Development at Chimerix, and Chief Business and Financial Officer at Neurogen Corporation. Tom obtained his Ph.D. in Physiology from Wake Forest University School of Medicine and was on the faculty of the University of Maryland School of Medicine before moving into industry.
